Hardwicke Bay Revegetation Project

On Monday of my first week at Wambana, we visited Hardwicke Bay. We were sent there to help weed and revegetate the surrounding plant life to make the vegetation natural and healthy for other surrounding environments. Weeds are a pest because they steal nutrients omnomnom from native plants that require it, also weeds absorb alot of water, in times of drought this is very bad for the environment. They also spread very quickly and easily. 3 of these weeds are Lincoln weed, Boxthorn and couchgrass. The way humans spread weeds is by buying them because of their looks and planting them in gardens, littles do we know they are spreading near and far rapidly. Weeds can spread via; bird droppings, climate (wind), human distribution and poor destruction. Basically weeds are the same all over Australia, some are worse than others but they contribute to destroying the environment all the same. If the climate changes (global warming) weeds are likely to get worse because most weeds do not die even when thy are seperated from the root... they will survive and the plants will not. People voulenteer to get rid of weeds and plant local plants because every little bit can effect the change in an environment and stop the destruction of local plants. We can all contribute by getting rid of weeds and disposing of them properly. If weeds are prevented from being planted in public areas close to other areas where they can grow... soon their population will decrease.
